Practice Area
Mr. Brake’s principal practice area is in commercial real estate. His clients include shopping center, apartment and office developers, banks and life insurance companies. Mr. Brake has handled all aspects of the development process, including land acquisition, construction and development issues, financing (construction and permanent loans), lease negotiations, outparcel development and sales, and dispositions. On the lending side of his practice, Mr. Brake has represented both construction and permanent lenders, especially life insurance companies.
Education
Mr. Brake graduated with High Distinction from the University of Virginia in 1977 with a double major in English and Economics. Mr. Brake then attended the Vanderbilt University School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Law Review and graduated in 1982.

From 1982 to 1999, Mr. Brake worked for Alston & Bird in Atlanta where he was named an equity partner in 1990.

On the lending side of his practice, Mr. Brake has represented both construction and permanent lenders, especially life insurance companies. Mr. Brake is a frequent speaker at the International Council of Shopping Centers law conference as well as at the Real Estate Section of the Georgia Bar's annual conference. His topics have ranged from outparcel development, negotiating purchase and sales contracts, leasing issues and title insurance matters.

Mr. Brake is a member of the State Bar of Georgia as well as the International Council of Shopping Centers and the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks.
