Mr. Cox’ primary practice areas are federal and state taxation and corporate law. Mr. Cox has handled a wide variety of business transactions on behalf of, among others, publicly and privately owned corporations, S corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies and tax-exempt organizations, all in a wide variety of industries. He has also handled both federal and state tax controversies on behalf of those clients.
Education
Mr. Cox graduated with High Distinction with a business degree from Indiana University in 1976. Mr. Cox then received his JD degree Cum Laude from the University of Louisville School of Law in 1980 and his LL.M in Taxation from the University of Florida School of Law in 1981.

From 1981 through 2005, Mr. Cox worked for Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs, LLP, a regional law firm based in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was made a partner in 1986 and served as that firm’s Vice Chair of its Taxation Practice Group.

Mr. Cox has represented clients in the structuring and implementation of a wide variety of transactions including mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, recapitalizations, joint ventures, family succession planning, venture capital matters, real estate development, sales and exchanges, and taxable and tax-free purchases and sales of businesses. He has also represented both publicly and privately owned businesses in federal and state tax controversies, including the largest state tax case ever litigated in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Mr. Cox is listed in the Best Lawyers in America among tax lawyers.
