& Wood's Land Use and Environmental Law practice offers
comprehensive services for all aspects of real estate development.
Our breadth of experience includes the development of commercial
retail centers to natural gas-fired power plants. Clients
also rely on our expertise in land use, zoning law and construction
matters to meet their development objectives. In conjunction
with the Firm's Litigation Practice Group we also offer legal
expertise in environmental litigation matters.
One of the first groups in the nation to
recognize the economical, social and community benefits of
rehabilitating environmentally compromised sites to create
new commercial development opportunities, practice area members
are leaders in negotiating Brownfield agreements. Its attorneys
take charge of all aspects of brownfield remediation for the
firm's commercial clients, including quantifying incremental
project costs, determining liability protections and coordinating
the efforts of environmental consultants, remediation contractors,
insurers and general contractors.
In the area of land use, practice area attorneys
regularly handle tax appeals, rezoning petitions, variance
requests, right-of-way issues, development of easements and
response to condemnations. Our land use attorneys have served
in major metropolitan government positions, developing critical
experience and extensive contacts. Working together with the
Firm's Real Estate Practice, our land use attorneys provide
comprehensive legal services to real estate developers.
Representing Independent Power Producers
and major industrial operators, the firm's Environmental and
Energy Attorneys provide legal counsel on issues of power
plant sitting, water resource use, regulatory compliance and
air emission permitting. Practice area attorneys have provided
comprehensive risk evaluation and mitigation services on a
number of complex environmental and energy projects, and frequently
draw upon our extensive regulatory contacts and experience
to achieve client objectives.
Practice area members have significant experience in the negotiation and drafting of construction agreements for commercial centers, office buildings and warehouse facilities. The Firm has a license from the American Institute of Architects to rely on its construction forms and routinely represents owners in the resolution of construction related issues.
